Half Marathon Route Discription
The race starts at The Promenade on the banks of the River Slaney close to The Riverside Park Hotel.

Section 1: Through Enniscorthy Town (0 -1.5 miles), In the first half mile you will cross the river twice [A], then proceed along Island Road before turning left along Irish St which goes gradually uphill to the town centre (1 mile). The route continues through Market Square, downhill past the castle [B] to Abbey Square and turns right onto the New Ross road.

Section 2: Out into the country (1.5 – 10 miles) Enjoy views across the Slaney [C] before crossing the Urrin River after which there is another gradual rise at about the 2 mile mark before turning left at Tomnahasset onto a more minor road (2.5 miles). The next mile is fast and flat before turning right (3.5 miles) to Ballinapierce.

Walkers go straight on at this point to Victoria Bridge [D] and rejoin the half marathon route at 7.5 miles.

The next half mile is a gentle uphill to the 4 mile mark before continuing on to Clough Mills (5 miles) where the route turns left, crossing the Boro River and up a quiet leafy road [E] to Wilton [F] (6 miles). Turning left at Wilton, the halfway point is soon reached before a pretty fast (pretty and fast!) downhill section towards Borrowdale. [G] Turning right at 7.5 miles there is a gradual incline to mile 8. After this the course is mainly flat, crossing the Slaney again at Edermine [H] before turning left onto the N11 just before mile 10.

Section 3: The Fast and Furious Finishing 3 miles This section of the course is along the wide and well surfaced N11 [I] and is flat except for a short, gentle rise just before the 12 mile mark. This is followed by a very fast last mile with the finish line in view across the river. Crossing the Slaney for the last time it is only 200 metres to running through the Finish in, hopefully, a personal best time on this runner friendly course.
